Twenty years ago, Loretta Winbun's 6-week-old daughter was killed as Winbun walked down the street and was hit by a car.
A few years later, in May 1991, Winbun herself was killed two blocks away when she jumped out of a car and was hit by another vehicle.
Monday night Winbun's son, Bradley, 19, who friends called Portland Gene, died at the same spot when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car full of college students. A passenger in the car was also killed.
"I couldn't believe it. I really couldn't,” said a witness, Shannon Erhart. “To think that both mother and son...we were out here the night the mother was killed. It's unbelievable. It really is.”
“She called and she said ‘Gene’s dead and he’s laying in the street,’” Cynthia Winbun-Boyles said. “And I said ‘What?’ and she said ‘Gene’s laying dead in the street.’” Winbun-Boyles said that was exactly what she found when she arrived at the scene just before 8:30 p.m. Monday.
