Police in Cambridge, Mass., said they have solved the mystery of dozens of missing parking meters after they found 123 of them in a man's apartment.
It started about a year ago when the parking meters began disappearing from city streets.
A spokesman for the Cambridge Police Department said some of the meters were hidden and some were left in plain view. Police said they carried out 123 meters that had been cut off poles in Cambridge and nearby Somerville over the last year.
"It's kind of an interesting case, as you can imagine," said Officer Frank Pasquarello. "Just the number of meters and the amount of work to take them upstairs to the apartment is unbelievable."
Officials said the meter crime spree cost the city more than $100,000.
