Doctors removed a tumor from an East Timorese baby that was almost one-third the child's body weight during a life-saving operation in New Zealand, officials said Thursday.Surgeons cut out the 7.3-pound benign tumor on Sunday from the abdomen of 14-month-old Alex Gonzaga at Wellington Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Trish Lee said.
The boy weighed about 24 pounds before the surgery and is expected to make a full recovery with no long term consequences, Lee said.
