Live And Let Dry

An Ohio father is facing a laundry list of charges for allegedly putting his 7-year-old daughter in the dryer, closing the door and turning it on.

Prosecutors told the Cleveland station after the girl told her school teacher her dad put her in the dryer, the school contacted children's services and charges were filed.

"There's no explaining this type of activity, why any individual would place any human being or any animal or anything in a dryer is unexplainable and to a normal thinking person, there's no explanation and obviously this man has issues," said Mike O'Malley, first assistant to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason. "If you're capable of putting your child in a clothes dryer you're probably capable of a lot of horrible things."

Prosecutors say it wasn't the first time the girl, who has a condition that stunts her growth, was put in the dryer.

Steve McClairin faces two counts of endangering children, felonious assault, kidnapping and domestic violence. He faces up to 33 years behind bars.

Hoofin' It

"If I had a friend that played the drums as well as this guy, I'd jam in my basement all everyday." -Chris Kelly

The Hawk!

Hall Of Fame.
Damn Right.
(My apologies to Andre and his family for calling him "The Big Cat" earlier - that is clearly the nickname of Andrés José Padovani Galarraga - here I stand, corrected.)

Na'vi Nookie?

There's only one semi-sexy scene in James Cameron's blockbuster "Avatar," but what couldn't be shown in theaters you'll be able to watch in the privacy of your own home.

Cameron admitted in a recent group interview that "Avatar" did have a sex scene between Zoe Saldana's Neytiri, a Na’vi, and the avatar of Sam Worthington's character, Jake Sully, but he cut it out in favor of a PG-13 rating.

"That [scene] will be something for the special edition DVD, if you want to see how they have sex," Cameron said.

"Poor Taste"

At least nine Detroit area high school juniors are in trouble for wearing sweat shirts bearing a design that evokes the terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center's Twin Towers.

Dearborn Public Schools spokesman David Mustonen has told The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press that the shirts the boys wore to Edsel Ford High School on Monday are "offensive" and in "poor taste."

The boys are Arab-American, as are about half the school's 1,700 students.

They belong to the 2011 class. On the shirts, the number 11 resembles two buildings, with the school's "Thunderbird" mascot flying toward them. Printed beneath the image are the words, "You can't bring us down."

The boys are to meet with school officials but suspensions are not planned.

Sianara

Tsutomu Yamaguchi, the only person officially recognized as a survivor of both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings at the end of World War II, has died at age 93.

Yamaguchi was in Hiroshima on a business trip for his shipbuilding company on Aug. 6, 1945, when a U.S. B-29 dropped an atomic bomb on the city. He suffered serious burns to his upper body and spent the night in the city.

He then returned to his hometown of Nagasaki, about 190 miles southwest, which suffered a second U.S. atomic bomb attack three days later.

On Aug. 15, 1945, Japan surrendered, ending the war.

The mayor of Nagasaki said "a precious storyteller has been lost," in a message posted on the city's Web site Wednesday. Yamaguchi died Monday morning of stomach cancer, the mass circulation Mainichi, Asahi and Yomiuri newspapers reported.
