As stabbing victim LaShanda Calloway lay dying on the floor of a convenience store, five shoppers, including one who stopped to take a picture of her with a cell phone, stepped over the woman, police said.

The June 23 situation was captured on the store's surveillance video, but police have refused to release the video, saying it is part of their investigation.

"It was tragic to watch," police spokesman Gordon Bassham said Tuesday. "The fact that people were more interested in taking a picture with a cell phone and shopping for snacks rather than helping this innocent young woman is, frankly, revolting."

The woman was stabbed during an altercation that was not part of a robbery, Bassham said. It took about two minutes for someone to call 911, he said.

Calloway, 27, died later at a hospital.

Britney Spears apologized for attacking a photographer's car with an umbrella in February, saying that at the time she was preparing to try out for a movie part and got carried away.

"I apologize to the pap for a stunt that was done 4 months ago regarding an umbrella," Spears said in a statement posted Wednesday on her Web site. "I was preparing my character for a roll (sic) in a movie where the husband never plays his part so they switch places accidentally. I take all my rolls (sic) very seriously and got a little carried away. Unfortunately I didn't get the part."

Unlucky? ...Or Just Plain Stupid?

It should have been a good week for Tony Hicks, his first days of freedom after a year in jail for assault, theft and burglary, but it wasn’t.

Sunday: The day after he got out, Hicks told police that a woman waiting for him outside his apartment hit him with a car, and he went to a hospital.

Monday: Hicks told police a man with a knife broke into his apartment, robbed him and hit him in the head with a coffee mug. He was taken to a hospital.

Tuesday: Hicks was in a hospital for a third straight day. This time it was for a gunshot wound, and he didn't have to tell police what happened -- they were the ones who shot him.

Cornered on Tuesday night in a dusty lot behind his apartment, Hicks told officers investigating a convenience store robbery that he had a gun and threatened to shoot, according to a police report. When he began a countdown, officers shot him in the lower torso.

Hicks turned out not to have a gun, but he did have a knife.

Hicks, 42, was held Thursday on $100,000 bail pending a hearing next week on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.

At Least It Was A Prius...

Al Gore III, 24, was driving a blue Toyota Prius about 100 mph on the San Diego Freeway when he was pulled over about 2:15 a.m., Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino said.

The deputies said they smelled marijuana and searched the car, Amormino said.

They found less than an ounce of marijuana along with Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall, he said.
