Anchorman 2 is dead.

According to the twitter feed of GhostPanther which belongs to Adam McKay, Will Ferrell's production partner and the co-writer/director of the original "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" Paramount passed on the project, even after they tried lowering the budget.

Said his tweet, "So bummed. Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried."

McKay's reps have no comment and we've called Paramount and have not yet received a response.

A source close to the studio says Paramount didn't officially pass, but rather wanted a lower budget than McKay and Ferrell presented -- a budget the duo felt was too low to make the film successfully. We'll keep you posted as we learn more details.

McKay wrote a follow-up Tweet on his feed: "To all who asked: no we can't do Anchorman 2 at another studio. Paramount owns it."

Brian Hogan

The world on Thursday finally discovered the identity of the bar patron who scooped up the lost Apple iPhone prototype from a Silicon Valley beer garden, thus setting off a chain of events that has taken us far afield from the technology world, into the murky waters of journalistic ethics and police raids.

Wired.com first identified the individual as Brian Hogan, a 21-year-old who lives in Redwood City, California. But it wasn’t long before an e-mail from Hogan’s lawyer was shooting into the in-boxes of journalists everywhere, defending him as “kind of young man that any parent would be proud to have as their son.”

“He regrets his mistake in not doing more to return the phone,” said the e-mail from his lawyer, Jeffrey Bornstein.

The iPhone in question, an apparent prototype of Apple’s not-yet-released fourth-generation model, was accidentally left in the bar by a young Apple engineer. The device was eventually sold to gadget site Gizmodo for $5,000, which splashed it all over the Internet and caused a serious ruckus. Apple asked for the device back and took the case to police.

Authorities then raided the home of one of Gizmodo’s editors and seized his computers, trying to determine whether a felony theft had occurred. Lawyers were called, shield laws were debated, and the issue appears nowhere near resolved.

After it was discovered on the dirty floor of a Redwood City, Calif. bar, tech-enthusiast website Gizmodo carefully studied what it believes is the latest iPhone incarnation.

According to his lawyer, Hogan was handed the iPhone by someone else who found it on a bar stool. He then asked those around him if it was theirs, and took it home when nobody claimed ownership.

Game On!

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous and kind — and completely addicted to Nintendo Wii.

The Boy Scouts of America — a group founded on the principles of building character and improving physical fitness — have introduced a brand new award for academic achievement in video gaming, a move that has child health experts atwitter.

"It could be quite visionary and exciting or it could be a complete sellout," said Dr. Vic Strasburger, professor of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.

"The devil is in the details," said Strasburger, who argued that teaching kids media literacy would be extremely valuable — as long as the games were free of the violent and sexual content that dominate so many popular titles.

While demanding adult oversight, the Scouts are now encouraging their youngest members to explore the Great Indoors and "learn to play a new video game" approved by their parents and guardians.

It's a large step for the Scouts, who have traditionally promoted physical activities like camping and sports alongside personal pursuits that foster citizenship.

Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts can earn their pins by spending an hour a day playing games, teaching others how to play better, and even researching the best price for games they'd like to buy.

The games must "help you practice your math, spelling, or another skill that helps you in your schoolwork," according to the online guidelines.

In all, the Scouts have introduced 13 new merit pins this year for a wide range of topics: Disability Awareness, Family Travel, Good Manners, Hiking, Hockey, Horseback Riding, Kickball, Nutrition, Pet Care, Photography, Reading and Writing, Skateboarding, and Video Games.

Holy Man

Indian doctors are studying an 83-year-old holy man who claims to have spent the last seven decades without food and water.

Military doctors hope the experiments on Prahlad Jani can help soldiers develop their survival strategies.

The long-haired and bearded yogi is under 24-hour observation by a team of 30 specialists during three weeks of tests at a hospital in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad.

Two cameras have been set up in his room, while a mobile camera films him when he goes outside, guaranteeing round-the-clock observation.

His body will be scanned and his brain and heart activity measured with electrodes.

"The observation from this study may throw light on human survival without food and water," said Dr. G. Ilavazahagan, who is directing the research. "This may help in working out strategies for survival during natural calamities, extreme stressful conditions and extra-terrestrial explorations like future missions to the Moon and Mars by the human race."

Since the experiment began on April 22, Jani has had no food or water and has not been to the toilet.

"The exercise of taking this yogi under the medical scanner is to understand what energy supports his existence," Ilavazahagan added. "Jani says he meditates to get energy. Our soldiers will not be able to meditate, but we would still like to find out more about the man and his body."

Jani, who dresses in red and wears a nose ring, grew up in Charod village in the Mehsana district in Gujarat.

He claims to have been blessed by a goddess when he was 8-years-old, which has enabled him to survive without sustenance.

Guns & Buns

Yesterday, amid reports of rampant drug use and self-destructive behavior, Lindsay Lohan Tweeted a photo of herself holding a gun to her mouth, calling it "art."

The photo was a Polaroid from a shoot with photographer Tyler Fields, Lohan said. Fields placed some of the additional shots on his website, offering praise for Lohan.

“Everyone has an idea of Lindsay Lohan and last night I had the pleasure of working with her she is a huge art lover and simply wanted to create some and that is exactly what we did,” he wrote. “This is just a taste more to come… Lindsay Will have a few crazy shots in my upcoming book The Dirty Side of Glamor.”

Lohan also Tweeted her frustrations at former girlfriend Samantha Ronson, who she claims threw her out of a party last night and then talked to TMZ.

“Playing the innocent card, while chatting to tmz just like my ex-father, when all I've ever done is fall for a girl,” Lohan Tweeted.

Lohan has been a constant in the headlines lately, most recently when her father Michael Lohan said he would be seeking the help of a judge to force the star into rehab and remove her 16-year-old sister Ali from her care.

Target Practice

Utah Department of Corrections officials released details Tuesday on how they will carry out the execution of a convicted killer by firing squad, the state's first execution in more than 10 years and one that is renewing a debate over what critics see as an antiquated, Old West-style of justice.

Ronnie Lee Gardner, 49, was given the choice of being killed by lethal injection or shot by a five-man team of executioners firing from a set of matched rifles — a rarely used method of execution that harkens back to Utah's territorial history.

"I would like the firing squad, please," Gardner told state court Judge Robin Reese after hearing his avenues for appeal appear to be exhausted. Reese agreed Friday to Gardner's request.

Gardner was convicted of the fatal shooting death of Utah attorney Michael J. Burdell during an escape attempt and shootout at the old Metropolitan Hall of Justice in downtown Salt Lake City on April 2, 1985.

Although he was handcuffed and surrounded by prison guards, a female acquaintance slipped Gardner a loaded, long-barreled .22-caliber handgun in the basement of the building just before the shooting. He shot Burdell in the head and wounded the court bailiff before being captured on the courthouse lawn.

His execution will take place just after midnight on June 18 in a chamber built in 1998, according to corrections officials. Prosecutors, law enforcement and news media will witness his death.

Five corrections officers selected by the department to be executioners will be positioned behind a brick wall with a portal cut out.

"Five guns, four of them are loaded, one has blanks," Gehrke told Fox 13. "And the call is made. When the whole process is ready, there is a hood placed over the condemned's head."

A patch with a target will be pinned to Gardner's chest, and he will be given the chance to say his last words, as well as request a last meal prepared at the prison.

Leatherface?!?

Police are searching for a suburban Dallas man accused of decapitating his wife with a chainsaw.

Lewisville police have issued an arrest warrant for 49-year-old Jose Fernando Corona that charges him with the murder of his wife, Maria Corona.

The slain 44-year-old mother of six was discovered in the street near her home Monday. A bloody trail ran from her headless body to her house. Police found two chainsaws with blood and tissue matter nearby, one of them still running.

The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday that Lewisville police Capt. Kevin Deaver said the couple had been having marital problems.

Deaver said Jose Corona has no prior criminal history. Police are asking state and federal authorities for help locating him.

Hang On

An already ailing Bret Michaels has been diagnosed with another medical malady.

After suffering a brain hemorrhage last week, the audacious 47-year-old glam-rock reality TV star has developed a side effect that causes seizures, according to a statement posted Tuesday on the former Poison frontman's website.

The condition, called hyponatremia, stems from a lack of sodium. The statement did not indicate if Michaels had actually suffered any seizures.

Michaels was conscious and in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital.

The statement said he was remaining positive and responding well to tests and treatments.

"Even though today was a minor setback, doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery and plan to release more specific information next Monday," it said.

Michaels, a contestant on "The Celebrity Apprentice," suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, which causes bleeding in the fluid-filled spaces around the base of the brain. He was rushed to the hospital on Friday with a severe headache.

"Doctors state Michaels is very lucky as his condition could have been fatal," according to the statement, which was also provided by Michaels' New York-based publicist Joann Mignano.

Snake Charmer

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a message for wily coyotes out there: Don't mess with my dog.

Perry says he needed just one shot from his laser-sighted pistol to take down a coyote that was menacing his dog during an early morning jog in an undeveloped area near Austin.

Perry told The Associated Press he sometimes carries his pistol, loaded with hollow-pointed bullets, when he jogs on trails because he's scared of snakes -- and that he'd seen coyotes in that area.

When the coyote came out of the brush toward his daughter's Labrador retriever puppy on a February jog, he charged it and shot it with his .380 Ruger pistol.

"Don't attack my dog or you might get shot ... if you're a coyote," Perry said.

Jelly Sting

A 10-year-old girl who survived being stung by the world's most venomous creature — the deadly box jellyfish — may have rewritten medical history, an expert has said.

Rachael Shardlow from Australia lost consciousness after being badly stung by the jellyfish while swimming in a river with her brother in December.

"When I first saw the pictures of the injuries I just went, 'You know, to be honest, this kid should not be alive,’” zoology professor Jamie Seymour, from James Cook University, told ABC News in Australia. "I mean, they are horrific. Usually when you see people who have been stung by box jellyfish with that number of the tentacle contacts on their body, it's usually in a morgue."

Often deadly, the box jellyfish has long, trailing tentacles and is able to squeeze through even the smallest of nets as it is only the size of a fingernail.

The venom is so overpoweringly painful that victims often go into shock and drown or die of heart failure before reaching the shore. There is no effective anti-venom for its sting, which attacks the heart, nervous system and skin, inducing shooting muscle pain, vomiting and a rapid rise in blood pressure.

Rachael was pulled from the Calliope River, near the town of Gladstone, by her 13-year-old brother with the jellyfish's tentacles wrapped around her legs. Before passing out, she told him she could not see or breathe.

After the rescue, she spent six weeks recovering in hospital before returning home.

"I don't know of anybody in the entire literature where we've studied this where someone has had such an extensive sting that has survived,” Seymour said. "From our point of view, it's really useful information that you very seldom, if ever, get your hands on."

The girl's father Geoff Shardlow told ABC News that his daughter had suffered scarring to her legs and some short-term memory loss.

Libyans Or Dr. Death?

Jack Kevorkian's infamous "death bus" was removed from auction on eBay, it emerged Tuesday.

The 1968 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon was put on sale on the website last week by Jack Finn, a Volkswagen parts expert in Ferndale, Mich., who previously stored it in a warehouse.

He claimed the van was in the same condition as it was when U.S. right-to-die advocate Kevorkian used it, allegedly for assisting terminally ill patients in committing suicide.

It fetched $3,300 with 26 bids by Monday afternoon, with three days left, but shortly after the item was no longer listed for sale.

The online auction site cited a policy against “murderabilia,” according to Examiner.com.

Known as "Dr. Death," retired pathologist Kevorkian, 81, claimed to have helped more than 130 people die since 1990. He was released from prison on parole in 2007, after serving an eight-year prison sentence for second-degree murder.

Sam Taylor-Wood is 43.

Sam Taylor-Wood's fiance is 19-year old “Kick-Ass” star Aaron Johnson.

She met Johnson on the set of "Nowhere Boy" in 2009. She was the film's director, he was its its teen-age male lead.

The actress explained herself in the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar, saying “The amount of men I know with the same age gap that we have—how come no one says anything about that? It’s totally sexist. I try to ignore it. In my life, I’ve never really listened to when people start forming opinions on how you should be doing things.”

Johnson, for his part, says he is "excited" about the baby and adds Taylor-Wood is "a fantastic mother."

Taylor-Wood has two daughters, aged three and twelve, with an art dealer. She also survived bouts with colon and breast cancer when she was in her thirties.

So how did her teen-age baby daddy pop the question? “[It was] a complete surprise. He had been planning a lot longer than I had imagined," she said.

Their child is due in July.....

Toying With The Toys

County supervisors in California have proposed that toys included in fast-food restaurant meals for kids be banned, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Officials in Silicon Valley are convinced that luring kids into eating foods with high sugar, sodium and fat by using toys will make them overweight and cause long term health problems.

This proposal is believed to the first of this type, and would ban the inclusion of a toy in any kids meal with more than 485 calories, 600 mg of salt, or high amounts of sugar or fat. These guidelines would cause all McDonald’s happy meals—even those with apple sticks instead of French fries—to be served without a toy.

Supporters of the ban argue that it will force restaurants to offer nutritious foods to kids. Others have said this is another case of the government getting too involved in parenting decisions.

Noah's Arcade

A group of Chinese and Turkish evangelical explorers say wooden remains they have discovered on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey are the remains of Noah's Ark.

The group claims that carbon dating proves the relics are 4,800 years old, meaning they date to around the same time the ark was said to be afloat. Mt. Ararat has long been suspected as the final resting place of the craft by evangelicals and literalists hoping to validate biblical stories.

Yeung Wing-Cheung, from the Noah's Ark Ministries International research team that made the discovery, said: "It's not 100 percent that it is Noah's Ark, but we think it is 99.9 percent that this is it."

There have been several reported discoveries of the remains of Noah's Ark over the years, most notably a find by archaeologist Ron Wyatt in 1987. At the time, the Turkish government officially declared a national park around his find, a boat-shaped object stretched across the mountains of Ararat.

Nevertheless, the evangelical ministry remains convinced that the current find is in fact more likely to be the actual artifact, calling upon Dutch Ark researcher Gerrit Aalten to verify its legitimacy.

“The significance of this find is that for the first time in history the discovery of Noah’s Ark is well documented and revealed to the worldwide community,” Aalten said at a press conference announcing the find. Citing the many details that match historical accounts of the Ark, he believes it to be a legitimate archaeological discovery.

“There’s a tremendous amount of solid evidence that the structure found on Mount Ararat in Eastern Turkey is the legendary Ark of Noah,” said Aalten.

Representatives of Noah's Ark Ministries said the structure contained several compartments, some with wooden beams, that they believe were used to house animals. The group of evangelical archaeologists ruled out an established human settlement on the grounds none have ever been found above 11,000 feet in the vicinity, Yeung said.

Is Squidward The Real Hero?!?

A 12-year-old Long Island girl is crediting "SpongeBob SquarePants" for teaching her how to help her choking friend.

Miriam Starobin and her best friend, Allyson Golden, were in music class Tuesday when Allyson began choking on her gum. Allyson turned red and started kicking her legs.

Miriam -- with thoughts of SpongeBob and the gang -- flew into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver, and the gum popped out.

In one episode of the Nickelodeon animated series, SpongeBob retrieves a clarinet lodged in Squidward's throat. In another, Patrick revives Squidward after he swallows a fork.

Miriam says she is also a fan of medical shows like "Grey's Anatomy," but never had any formal training in the technique.

Disgraced Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been traded for NHL Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux -- at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.

Roethlisberger's name has been replaced with Lemieux's on a display that compares the height of elephants with other creatures.

Zoo spokeswoman Tracy Gray says some zoo visitors had expressed concerns about Roethlisberger's name on the display. She says Lemieux, the retired Pittsburgh Penguins star and team owner, is well-known and approximately the same height as Roethlisberger, about 6-foot-5.

The NFL has suspended Roethlisberger up to six games for his actions at a Georgia nightclub where a 20-year-old college student accused him of sexual assault last month. Roethlisberger wasn't charged with any crime.

Lookin' Good - Feelin' Fine

A Missouri man who won a $258 million Powerball jackpot and plans to use some of the money to pay bills and take his children to Disney World says he hasn't decided yet if he'll quit his job at the convenience store where he bought the winning ticket.

Chris Shaw — a 29-year-old tattooed father of three who was raised by his grandparents in rural southern Missouri — came forward Thursday as the winner of the 10th-largest Powerball jackpot ever.

Shaw said he had just $28.96 in his bank account and recently bought a 1998 Ford Ranger from a friend who agreed to let him pay off the $1,000 price $100 at a time. Now, he said, he no longer has to worry about how he'll pay his friend — or his utility bills.

"We didn't come from money. For us it's just going to be a huge relief to know I'm going to be able to pay my electric bill, my gas bill," Shaw told the Associated Press. "It's like a weight lifted. I had bills at home I didn't know how they were going to be paid."

Shaw said he bought the $5 ticket Wednesday at the Break Time convenience store where he works in Marshall, a central Missouri town about 80 miles east of Kansas City. He accepted his ceremonial check at the Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City wearing a tan and red plaid shirt, a red hat and a huge grin — minus two front teeth he says he lost because he didn't take care of them but can now afford to have replaced.

Pretty Woman

A Lansdale woman convicted in February of indecent assault on a minor eight years ago has been arrested and charged with engaging in intercourse with a 14-year-old boy.

Erica Dillon, 31, of the 800 block of Walnut Street, was awaiting sentencing on charges of indecent assault and child endangerment in the first case when she had sex with the boy April 5 in the bedroom of her home, police said.

Her live-in boyfriend, Antonio Morano, 28, allegedly watched. The boy had come to the house to visit Morano, his former neighbor. Police said Morano showed the boy a pornographic video on a computer.

The second sexual encounter came to light April 15 when the boy's mother went to Dillon's home to confront her about the incident.

Lansdale police responded to a report of a disturbance and began investigating. According to an affidavit of probable cause, officers learned that Dillon had been convicted in February for the 2002 indecent assault on a 5-year-old family member and was out on $50,000 bail.

Gar Egg Omelet

Take it from Darwin Aaron and his family in Cleburne County: gar eggs are poisonous. Tiffany Aaron said her husband, Darwin, and brother-in-law, Russell Aaron, took a long-nosed gar while spearfishing at Greers Ferry Lake on April 5. Gar meat is edible, so they figured they'd try the roe.

They prepared the eggs that evening, with Darwin and Russell Aaron eating some, along with Darwin and Tiffany's 10-year-old son, Carson.

Carson was the first to start vomiting at about 1:30 a.m. Russell and Darwin soon were sick, too.

Tiffany Aaron looked online and read that gar eggs are poisonous.

All three family members recovered after a few days. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said eggs from all gar species are highly toxic.

D2

Three bisexual men filed a lawsuit in Seattle, Washington against the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA) claiming they were discriminated against for not being gay enough to participate in the organization's Gay Softball World Series, The Seattle Times reported Tuesday evening.

The three men who filed the suit, Steven Apilado, LaRon Charles and Jon Russ, claim their softball team, D2, was disqualified from participating in the softball championship because the alliance ruled they were "nongay."

After D2 qualified for the 2008 championship series, the NAGAAA held a hearing to determine the sexual orientation of D2 players. The plaintiffs allege they were asked "personal and intrusive questions" about their sexual attractions and desires.

At one point during the questioning, D2 players were allegedly told, "This is the Gay World Series, not the Bisexual World Series."

The men are asking for $75,000 each for emotional distress, are seeking to invalidate the alliance's findings on the men's sexual orientations and to reinstate D2's second-place World Series finish.

The NAGAAA was formed in 1977 and now includes more than 680 teams in 37 leagues across the U.S.

EXCLUSIVE!!!

Lawman

In the wake of a sex trafficking lawsuit brought against the actor by former employee Kayden Nguyen, sordid stories of Steven Seagal's alleged behind-the-scenes behavior are starting to bubble up.

In a 1998 Movieline interview dug up by CBS Crimesider, Jenny McCarthy said Seagal made her strip and cry on a casting call for the film "Under Siege 2."

"I go inside Seagal's office, and he's by himself and says, 'Sit on my couch," McCarthy said. "Then he said, 'Take off your dress.' I just started crying and said, 'Rent my Playboy video, you ass---e!' and ran out to the car."

McCarthy's rep confirmed she had made those statements, but refused further comment on the matter. Others however, may not be so reticent.

RadarOnline.com is reporting that additional women will be coming forward with sexual harassment claims against Seagal. "Several of Seagal's other victims have already come to my office and submitted sworn declarations detailing the facts of Seagal's illegal conduct towards them," Nguyen's lawyer, William Waldo, told the website.

Kayden Nguyen filed a $1 million sexual trafficking and sexual harassment lawsuit against Seagal.

She said she responded to a Craigslist ad for an executive assistant for the star of "Steven Seagal Lawman" but then realized she has only hired to be "available for his sexual needs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."

Seagal's attorney said the lawsuit is "a ridiculous and absurd claim by a disgruntled ex-employee who was fired" and that by speaking at all, Nguyen is violating terms of confidentiality agreement she signed when she began working for Seagal.

"Steven Seagal Lawman" has suspended filming while its star deals with the suit.

Soul Searchin'

A computer game retailer revealed that it legally owns the souls of thousands of online shoppers, thanks to a clause in the terms and conditions agreed to by online shoppers.

The retailer, British firm GameStation, added the "immortal soul clause" to the contract signed before making any online purchases earlier this month. It states that customers grant the company the right to claim their soul.

"By placing an order via this Web site on the first day of the fourth month of the year 2010 Anno Domini, you agree to grant Us a non transferable option to claim, for now and for ever more, your immortal soul. Should We wish to exercise this option, you agree to surrender your immortal soul, and any claim you may have on it, within 5 (five) working days of receiving written notification from gamesation.co.uk or one of its duly authorised minions."

GameStation's form also points out that "we reserve the right to serve such notice in 6 (six) foot high letters of fire, however we can accept no liability for any loss or damage caused by such an act. If you a) do not believe you have an immortal soul, b) have already given it to another party, or c) do not wish to grant Us such a license, please click the link below to nullify this sub-clause and proceed with your transaction."

The terms of service were updated on April Fool's Day as a gag, but the retailer did so to make a very real point: No one reads the online terms and conditions of shopping, and companies are free to insert whatever language they want into the documents.

While all shoppers during the test were given a simple tick box option to opt out, very few did this, which would have also rewarded them with a £5 voucher, according to news:lite. Due to the number of people who ticked the box, GameStation claims believes as many as 88 percent of people do not read the terms and conditions of a Web site before they make a purchase.

The company noted that it would not be enforcing the ownership rights, and planned to e-mail customers nullifying any claim on their soul.

$12.50

Police in Guatemala say a 13-year-old boy has confessed to shooting a woman to death for a payment of about $12.50.

The National Police say the suspect was carrying the fatal gun when arrested.

Spokesman Donald Gonzalez says the boy told police he was paid to shoot the woman as she took her two children to school on the outskirts of Guatemala City.

Interior Minister Carlos Menocal said Thursday that street gangs hire minors to carry out killings because they face lighter treatment in Guatemala's legal system. The boy could face 6 years in a juvenile custody facility if convicted.

The legislature is debating a law that would lower the age at which suspects could be tried as adults from 18 to 15.

A New Jersey man is facing charges after police say he intentionally vomited on an 11-year-old girl in the stands during a Phillies game.

Twenty-one-year-old Matthew Clemmens of Cherry Hill, N.J., was arraigned early Friday morning on charges stemming from an incident during Wednesday night’s Phillies-Nationals game.

Police say Clemmens began trying to make himself vomit on an off-duty police captain and his family after a companion was removed from the stadium for unruly behavior.

Easton police Capt. Michael Vangelo says he saw Clemmens put his fingers down his throat and throw up, hitting Vangelo and his 11-year-old daughter. Philadelphia police say Clemmens also punched Vangelo and vomited on an arresting officer.

Clemmens was in custody Friday morning on charges including assault and harassment. Bail was set at $12,000.

If You're Gonna Spew...

An ash cloud from Iceland's spewing volcano halted air traffic across a wide swath of Europe on Thursday, grounding planes on a scale unseen since the 2001 terror attacks as authorities stopped all flights over Britain, Ireland and the Nordic countries.

Thousands of flights were canceled, stranding tens of thousands of passengers, and officials said it was not clear when it would be safe enough to fly again.

An aviation expert said it was the first time in living memory that an ash cloud had affected some of the most congested airspace in the world, while a scientist in Iceland said the ejection of volcanic ash -- and therefore disruptions in air travel -- could continue for days or even weeks.

"At the present time it is impossible to say when we will resume flying," said Henrik Peter Joergensen, the spokesman for Copenhagen's airport in Denmark, where some 25,000 passengers were affected.

The ash plume, which rose to between 20,000 feet and 36,000 feet (6,000 meters and 11,000 meters), lies above the Atlantic Ocean close to the flight paths for most routes from the U.S. east coast to Europe.

With the cloud drifting south and east across Britain, the country's air traffic service banned all non-emergency flights until at least 7 a.m. (0600GMT, 2 a.m. EDT) Friday. Irish authorities closed their air space for at least eight hours, and aviation authorities in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Belgium took similar precautions.

The move shut down London's five major airports including Heathrow, a major trans-Atlantic hub that handles over 1,200 flights and 180,000 passengers per day. Airport shutdowns and flight cancellations spread eastward across Europe -- to France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland -- and the effects reverberated worldwide.

-Two-time Super Bowl-winning QB Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers might've evaded sexual assault charges from a district attorney in Georgia this week, but his ongoing offseason shenanigans are starting to catch up with him.

While he did give the obligatory apology yesterday, Big Ben has now lost a major sponsor according to TMZ. The saddest part? It's called Big Ben's Beef Jerky, which is produced by a company called PLB Sports. PLB has been selling the product for the last five years but has now halted production of the jerky and has reportedly ordered all of the remaining Big Ben product to be "destroyed."
